Arce, Frosinone/Caserta.Maternal last name on birth record.

Post by MariaMadonna »

Thank you very much.
From antenati italiani, Arce, Caserta.
In the 1865 birth record and index for
Francesco Meglio, in Arce, what is the maternal last name? Parents' surnames seem new to that town.
I am helping a cousin.

It looks like 'Quintone' to me. The closest I found doing a surname search is Quintoni which currently exists in a very small number in Barano d'Ischia (Napoli)...

Thank you very much. Makes sense. I could also see Quietone which maybe was phonetic form for, as you say, Quintoni, maybe not a local name and unfamiliar to the person recording it? Most of the names in the index are Quattrini, common there for years, but one entry was corrected maybe because it, too, was unfamiliar in that town. I wish that records for 1866 and later were on line for more clues.

Other possibility, Quietone. Appears in Caserta records on Ancestry but not when I searched google.

The last letter looks like an "a" to me.

Yes, I read Quietone too. It does seem to appear in Campania region. It may also be Quietore but I would say Quietone is more likely.

Quidone is the surname. She must be a foundling as there was no other person in the list with that surname.
