I'm looking for Andrew (Andrea) Ughetti and sister Celestine. I have a ship manifest that I believe is him (hometown Giaveno, Turin, Italy). I'm having trouble getting the information off it though.
Traveling with Giusto(?) Ughetti. Brother? There are notations on the name I don't understand, if they mean anything at all.
Father, Felice Ughetti of Giaveno?
What is the d* mark around Celeste?
I haven't been able to find any immigration information for Celeste who arrived 1913 (m. Agostino Giavia, he arrived in 1911)

Re: Ughetti - need help with arrival manifest
Hi Jeri,
Are you aware that there is a second page of record for the manifest entry?
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1368704
included on this page are the destinations of Giusto (Utah) and Andrea (Wyoming). As I read it, Andrea's sister is recorded as "Celestina Giai Via". The surname seems to be a name with a hyphen or space separating the two parts, which may cause trouble when searching.
Here is the manifest for the arrival of Celestina and her son (don't forget the second page):
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 3AJNT8-668
This site explains manifest markings:
https://www.jewishgen.org/InfoFiles/Manifests/
- The d* are signs for "dittoes" (we commonly use the " symbol, which I will resist ironically enclosing in quotes), repeating information from the line above. That pretty much makes Giusto and Andrea brothers.
- The long number strings are indications that the various people were naturalized; these refer to the dates when the process occurred; it included a look-up to check the legal immigration status of the candidate for citizenship.
Another presumably related Giai-Via couple, Domenica & Carolina, migrate here in 1910:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 3AJJXM-L24
And an earlier 1906 trip by the same Domenico
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 3AJFFH-LNL
No second page on this manifest.
They're going mining, hope they struck it rich! Perhaps you feel that way a little bit?

Oops, looked again at the original posted manifest, Giusto and and Andrea have different fathers, so are not brothers, I would guess cousins.
