I located a 1914 Philly manifest for an Antonio Occhiuto (indexed as Occhinto) going to Sheffield PA also from Cortale. Previously in US. LIkely one of Francesco's siblings.

Yes, Antonia was a sister of Francesco! Can you please provide the link to the manifest?
This is the 1914 Philadelphia manifest (last line) This Antonio not Antonia was born about 1881. Can you verify if that is his approx birth year?

Sorry, but I don't have an Antonio listed as a sibling to Francesco (which doesn't mean there wasn't one, I just haven't identified him yet). The timeframe would be correct, so it's certainly a possibility.

So, based on the information above, can we assume that father Tommaso was born c. 1846, in Cortale, Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy? And if so, are there records that may help find out who his parents are?

And since it appears his wife, Veronica Ferraino Occhiuto may never have left Italy, is there a way to search for her death record in Cortale?

Again, thanks for your help. You guys are great!

Currently, only birth records from 1825 to 1843 are available on line.

You'll have to rent the microfilms from Familysearch to check:

Just found manifest and posted above for Francesco... he was born in Cortale, Catanzaro.

But the only online records I could find for Cortale were births from 1825 - 1843 :-(

...and microfilm only extends to 1861

The Occhiuto family and the Ferraina family are from Cortale and Maida, Calabria, Italy. Part of the Bertuca, Maiorano, Ieradi, Gagliardi, Feroleto, Pappalia, Russo, Sacco, Marabella and Foderaro families.

ciao a tutti

I just registered for this reply, I am researching Ferraina from Cortale. I stumbled upon your mention of Veronica Ferraina. Veronica is a very unusual name in Cortale, look what I found while collecting Ferrainas from Cortale:

https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/co ... d=27089363

Ellis Island entry, arriving September 3rd 1939

Laura Ferrina, 50, from Cortale, sister Veronica in Cortale, joining husband Beniamino Buccafurni in Phladelphia.
Laura travels with her children, presumably Veronica und Tomaso Occhiutos nephews and nieces:

Buccafurni Laura 14
and Teresa 16

I wonder why Veronica never joined her husband Tomaso Occhiuto in Sheffield.

Sheffield is a place that is often mentioned when looking for Cortalesi in the manifests.
