Dual Citizenship laws still the same?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Dual Citizenship laws still the same?

Post by lucaless »

Long story short, I started my dual citizenship process two years ago, going through my ggf/ggm. My ggf was naturalized in 1931 before my gf was born in 1932, but my ggm was not naturalized until 1960 (waiting to obtain A-file from uscis to confirm). So I was told I COULD NOT go through my consulate because my ggf renounced Italian citizenship before my gf was born but my ggm did not and that I had to go through the Italy courts and through my ggm via 1948 cases. Last time I spoke with my lawyer in Italy this was the case.

Is this still the case today? I obtained all documents, but still need to go through translation and apostilles. But I wanted to check if anything has changed before I start back up.

Appreciate any info on recents changes to the laws or any info you can give on my particular situation.

What you say seems correct, you need to find a lawyer in Italy.
There have not been changes in the citizenship law recently and it's not probable there will be shortly,

But your ggm was also Italian, they married in Italy and came together to the US?

I did find a lawyer, he gave me all the details. I just wanted to check if there has been any changes to the law.

And yes they married in Italy. Ggf came first to the US, then came back to Italy for her and eventually came together to the US permanently.
