Church in Santa Maria Del Giudice.

Post by Blackcat5 »

My grandparents, Adorna Genovesi and Gelindo Micheletti, were married at a church in Santa Maria del Giudice Italia on September 13, 1912. They moved to Galveston, Texas in 1921. I would like to visit the church where they were married, if it still exists. How would I find the church?

Hi:

The church you are looking for is https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Cate ... ce,_00.jpg

I was just there in September 2019. The cemetery not near the church was also very interesting. If I remember correctly the church is only open on Sundays for mass in the morning. We were not able to go in.

My family is also Micheletti and went to Galveston Texas, my family is from Santa Maria de Giudice. My grandmother was Maria Giulia Micheletti and my grandfather was Giuseppe DeRanieri.

I don't know much about the Michelettis. If you have more information about them can you please share it with me?

Thank you.

Hi. I am descended from Armanda and Guerrino Micheletti who immigrated from Lucca, Italy, in May of1913 and moved to Galveston where they joined other family who were already there. I am looking for any information about them - I would especially love seeing pictures.

I believe there is a picture of your grandparents in front of their grocery store in Galveston in the Smithsonian as as an example of "corner grocery stores" in America. I am not sure what the date is -- but perhaps in the 1930s? I have seen this picture. Let's stay in touch!

Hi Joe!

My family is also a Micheletti from SdG and Lucca who went to Galveston.

My great grandmother was Cesira (DeRanieri) Micheletti.

We were at the church in October '23 and it is simple and so beautiful.

We are doing a bunch of research on family history and who knows...maybe we are related somehow! ;-)

OK, small world.

My Great-great Grandmother was Emilia / Erminia BIAGI (born DeRanieri) born Circa 1847 in Santa Maria del Giudice.

In my 23andMe profile I share DNA with the surname Micheletti and also have tons of distant Micheletti cousins in my family tree. But, I have unable to track down the main source of the connection.

I have Micheletti's in my tree from Port Arthur, TX and Montana.

Though, the DeRanieri connection is still the one that is closest to me but still a mystery.

I would like to visit this church to gain access to their records but it sounds like they don't allow it.

If anyone has any information regarding my G2 Grandmother (Emilia / Erminia BIAGI (born DeRanieri) born Circa 1847 in Santa Maria del Giudice) please let me know.

Best, bob
