I kindly apreciate if anyone could help me here:
I don't know the exact date my ancestor died and I need his death certificate. I have all documents for my citizenship except this. I only know the aproximate date in a range of 4 year. I would need to ask the Comune to send it to me by post. I could also go there and pick it up.
The problem is: Will they look in the books if I don't have the exact date?
Anyone had similar experiences? Please let me know.
Thank you!
Death Certificate - Death date unknown
Re: Death Certificate - Death date unknown
A comune in Italy?
You need from Italy the birth act of the ancestor emigrated and the marriage (if in Italy).
The death act, in general, is abroad, unless he had children remained abroad and then came back to Italy, but certainly was not usual.

Re: Death Certificate - Death date unknown
We think he came back and died in Italy. But we don’t know the exact date. We just know an approximate date. So my question is if the Ufficale di stato civile at the comune will look it up in the records if I don’t give them an exact date.
Re: Death Certificate - Death date unknown
You will probably need someone like Giovanni Montanti to call the anagrafe by phone if you don't have an exact date. I sincerely doubt they will respond to a written request.
I didn't know the exact of my great-grandparent's marriage, only a range of years, and he was able to procure the marriage certificate for me.

Re: Death Certificate - Death date unknown
If you give a range of years enough limited, you must hope the Ufficiale is kind enough to make the seach, particularly if it is a small comune it should not be very difficult, in certain comuni there are also indexes.
You must hope and wait,
