Puzzling info on passenger record

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Puzzling info on passenger record

Post by Tomil42 »

I am looking for an Augustino Cosentino on the Ellis Island site. I found a man with the right age, but am not sure where he was from. For Last Place of Residence it says, Malocchio, Evil Eye? Or is there a place in Sicily that sounds like this word?

Date of arrival was 25 Mar 1902 ship Nord America departing from Napoli.
Thanks for any ideas on this!

There is a Malocchio in Pistoia, Tuscany. See the map >HERE<

This Malocchio comes under the >Comune of Buggiano<

The name of the town written there is Malocchio but could be a misplelling of MOLOCHIO, a town in Calabria region, province of Reggio Calabria where the surname Cosentino exists. Also the first name is Agostino.
