Michele Iacobucci
I'm looking to see if Michele Darbbueir Iacobucci had any brothers or sister left in Italy when he left with his family in 1891-1892? We was born around 1853 and was from either Naples or Campagnola. Please let me know if anyone has any info about him.
Thanks,
David

Re: Michele Iacobucci
Campagnola is a "frazione" (absorbed suburb) of the town of MARZANO APPIO, Province of Caserta, Campania region. There are no Iacobucci currently residing in Marzano Appio but there are 11 in the Caserta Province area in other adjoining towns.
Youmight want to go to www.paginebianche.it and put in IACOBUCCI on the left side and CE (province of caserta)then click trova in red. =Peter=

Re: Michele Iacobucci
The short answer is, at a time when the only remotely reliable forms of birth control were the "rhythm method" and simple abstinence, nearly everyone had multiple siblings. It would be a very rare Italian indeed who was an only child at age ~38.
Iacobucci is a somewhat common name in Italy, especially in the areas broadly surrounding Naples. The only way to resolve your question is to do the research necessary to find exactly which comune (town/village) your Michele came from and then research birth/baptism records there.
Do you know where Michele setled in the US? Approximate year and place of death?
Hmmm... I presume this is him/his family?
So, first thing: the name "Darbbueir" is simply a poor attemt by the person who indexed this particular census record to read the handwritten Iacobucci.
1900 United States Federal Census about Michael Darbbueir
Name: Michael Darbbueir
[Michael Iacobucci]
[Michael Doybreen]
Home in 1900: Providence Ward 9, Providence, Rhode Island
Age: 46
Birth Date: Jun 1853
Birthplace: Italy
Race: White
Gender: Male
Immigration Year: 1891
Relationship to Head of House: Head
Father's Birthplace: Italy
Mother's Birthplace: Italy
Spouse's name: Dominica
Marriage Year: 1884
Marital Status: Married
Years Married: 16

Household Members: Name Age

Johanni Darbbueir 2
Jennaro Darbbueir 6/12
Antonio Pisano 26
Guiseppe Stebile 26
Angelo Stebire 30
Antonio Pahano 18
It appears that Michele owned the house, the "Darbbueir's" are his family members, and the other's are all boarders/renters.

The 1920 census is probably badly misindexed; it will take a bit longer to find it.

Re: Michele Iacobucci
This may or may not be the index to Michele's naturalization records (the 1900 census indicates that he was already naturalized).
With the information on this card, you can contact the National Archives and request copies of the actual documents. The naturalization documents may give a clear place of birth for Michele.
For general info: http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/natur ... ation.html
To order records, go to https://eservices.archives.gov/orderonl ... chives.gov
Click "Order Reproductions", then "Immigration and Naturalization Records". On the next page, click "Naturalization Records" and continue from there.

Forgot to mention that Domenica (Michele's wife) was a widow by the time of the 1930 census...

Re: Michele Iacobucci
Filippo/Philip's WWI and WWII draft registration cards.
Unfortunately, his place of birth is not clear; the WWI card did not have this data and the WWII card says "Marzzano" which does not exist.
I also found Pasquale's cards. The WWI card says he was born in Italy, the WWII card says "Campanola (Naples)".
So, after this exercise, it is still not clear exactly where in Italy Michele and his family came from.

Re: Michele Iacobucci
Manifest for the ship Burgundia, arriving May 18, 1896. At the bottom of the first page is Domenica Corrente, aged 32. On the top of the next page are sons Filippo aged 12 and Pasquale aged 7. All of these match perfectly with the 1900 census; therefore I am inclined to believe that this is Michele's wife and their children.
(Italian women generally travelled under their maiden name when not with their husbands; children generally travelled under their father's surname but there are always exceptions)
Unfortunately, these pre-1906'ish manifests do not contain much in the way of useful information like place of birth or last residence.
The elephant in the living room is this: the fourth line of page 2 is Filomena Corrente, aged 9. Who is she? Another child? If so, what happened to her between 1896 and the 1900 (and later) census?
Perhaps she was a niece or other relative?

Re: Michele Iacobucci
Since so much information is available for the spouse of Michele, why not try to find her marriage record/birth in the town where she was born? This may generate additional information about Michele and his town of birth. (Unless this has already been done - sorry.) How about trying to get a copy of Phillip's birth record, it may show more info about his parents?
I would also pursue the Marzano tip, even if there are currently no Iacobucci's living there. Your ancestors may have been there at one time, and even if Michele had siblings left behind there, they may have moved on to another area. Worth a try? (Lots of Iacobucci's from Caserta area - Castel di Sangro.)

Re: Michele Iacobucci
I am have family roots to Castel Di Sangro.
My father is Vincent Iacobucci (now Bucci)
His father Gaetano Iacobucci and wife Giulia (maiden name Barrandone?).
Other children:Emily, Michael, Gaetano, Anthony
Gaetano settled in Chicago in the 1920s. My father Vincent is sole survivor.
We are hoping to visit Castel Di Sangro soon. He hasnt seen it since 1957 when he was in the US Army and went to visit and meet the family.

Re: Michele Iacobucci
I think my relatives were from Castel Di Sangro or lived there before they ultimately settled in Derry, PA.
David, there is a chance that your grandfather Gaetano was the brother of Michael, my great-great-grandfather. Your father Vincent may be cousins with my great grandfather Guiseppe.
My grandfather changed his name to Amaday Michael Yacobush. I think it was Amedeo/Amadeo Iacobucci/Yacobucci or something similar to that based on a ship manifest I found.
His father (my great-grandfather) is Giuseppe Iacobucci (changed to Yacobucci). Giuseppe's death certificate lists his father as Michael Iacobucci & his mother as Mary Catulla or Catiella. Giuseppe and his sons built a home in Derry, PA. Giuseppe's wife was Nicoletta (maiden name Sconciafurno).
I'm still trying to piece things together. There are many Giuseppe Iacobucci's.
Do any of these names sound familiar to anyone?
