Prior to the startup of the USCIS Genealogy program (in August, 2008 if I recall correctly), it was necessary to file a Freedom of Information Act request in order to obtain naturalization records. The typical wait time for a Fast Track request was two years!. Click the thumbnail image below to see a truly disheartening letter.

Thankfully, USCIS has gotton the wait times down to a matter of a mere 3 months or so...

Jennabet, as we have seen again recently, the consulates want proof upon proof upon proof in cases of "No Records Found". Not much that can be done about it other than to play along.

For National Archives orders, start here https://eservices.archives.gov/orderonl ... chives.gov and click Order Reproductions, then Immigration & Naturalization Records. There is no charge unless they find a record and only a very reasonable charge if they do ($7.50 for non-certified, $22.50 for certified copies).

I actually just got my letter too! Just in time for my appointment next week. It was signed by Michael Quinn so I guess he is still in charge.
