Great find Tessa, thanks so much for that. I wasnt aware of Theresa's other brothers, besides Lorenzo.
It says that Carmine immigrated in 1890. I think I found a record for him - from thee Castle Garden website - March 31 1890, Ship - Belgravia, Port of Departure Naples. Is there anyway to get a photo of the ship manifest?
Thanks so much,
Nick

It is a shame that there isnt a lot of info, but Im glad there's something. :) Thanks. By the way, do you think its possible Carmine & Thomas Castagna are the same people? They are never on any censuses together; Thomas says he was born in Italy, but he didnt immigrate with his mother and brothers, and Thomas & Carmine are the same age.
Thanks,
Nick

I just found out that Carmine Sarnelli's parents were Lorenzo Sarnelli & Teresa Giordano, and that he was born in Pratola Serra, Avellino, Italy, if that can help any more.
Also he had another son Biaggio, born 1914 in New Jersey - I found a 1920 census, I wasnt able to view the photo though, where Biaggio, Theresa, and the rest of the kids, are living with Maria & Vincenzo Deangelo. I wonder if Carmine & Maria died before 1920. Maybe you can find the document.
Thanks so much, as always,
Nick

Here is a possible manifest for Teresa Giordano...

Arriving NY, 1907, she is 58 and a widow
She leaves daughter Grazia Sarnelli in Pratola Serra, Avellino
She is going to son Antonio Sarnelli in NYC

If the above images don't work (I've been unsuccessful with ellisisland.org records) you can view it at the http://www.ellisisland.org site -
Do a "search by ship"
Ship is the SS Republic, sailing from Naples, arriving November 24, 1907

This may be the marriage of Antonio Sarnelli in NYC

Sarnelli Antonio Jan 21 1906 Manhattan 2447
Martignetti Maria Jan 21 1906 Manhattan 2447

There is a Family Tree for a Antonio Sarnelli on Ancestry...
Lists his place of birth (and death) as Pratola Serra.
Lists his wife as Maria Martignetti, from Montefalcone, died in New York
Also lists a son Lorenzo born 1918 (this follows the Italian naming pattern) - in Pratola Serra. Died in 2010 in Montigny, Lorraine, France.

owner of the Family Tree is dantealigherimetz

Just some info about a possible "branch"

Wow Tessa, thanks for all this info. It has to be correct, everything fits together perfectly. The last part about Antonio, although some of it may have seemed doubtful, sounds for the most part accurate - considering his son's name is Lorenzo, and he was from Pratola Serra. Thanks so much for that too. :)

My boyfriend's father is Louis Vincent Castagna. His parents were Nicoli (Andrew) Castagna and Theresa Sarnelli. I'll mention this to him for you. Maybe he can help.
