Risso and Garavano in Liguria Itlay

we think My paternal grandfather Giuseppe Risso was
born 4 15 1879 in Clavarezza Liguria Italy according to ship register
and his wife
Caterina Garavano was
born 6 8 1879 Aresso Liguria Italy, again as liste on ship register

Caterina (Kate) was married in Italy and then came to the United States (San Francisco) in 1906 with two small children
Maria Bernadette Risso Nascita 6 giugno 1900 a Genova, Liguora, Italia e John George Risso Nascita 30 settembre 1903 in Aresso, Liguria, Italia

Could someone give me some direction on this? I will be in Italy in July and was hoping to go to some area to find documents or records.

records for your family would be housed in the municipal office in
Valbrevenna. http://www.comuni-italiani.it/010/065/index.html

If you don't speak the language, ask someone to help you locate
the office of civil records and hopefully you will be allowed to
either view the records or have a municipal worker help you.

Paul, I went to Clavarezza (whew - what a road!) and met with the lady who has access to the church records. She looked within the time period and it appears only FIRPO surnames are listed. However, when we were flying back to America we got an email from her telling us the place he was born was called CostaClavarezza which is about three more miles away and only can be reached by foot.
