I had heard they were extremely difficult to come by or non exsistant. anyone know the scoop?

They are not available online.
So, you should write to the Commune (for records after 1865), or to the AdS (National Archives) of Salerno (for about 1815-1865), if you have accurate dates.

im trying to get info on my 2nd gr grandparents and that entire family line. it is starting to look like a bunch of cousins married each other. im going to start with death records here in the US but records from Amalfi would help. i wish i had dates but i just dont.
