Trying to go further back with surnames Riccia, Tallone, and Chiacchio from Naples (?)

Post by darthsmozers »

My great-grandmother's name was Filomena Tallone, b. 1904 in Grumo Nevano, Napoli.

Her father was Antonio Tallone (b. 1867 in Italy, d. 1957 in NJ).
Her mother was Rosa Riccia (b. in Italy, no known dates...)
I do not know any info about Rosa or her parents.

Antonio Tallone's mother was Maria Brigida Chiacchio (b. in Italy, no known dates...)
I do not know anything about Maria, nor who Antonio's father was (m. to Maria).

Is any Naples-related info online? Thank you for any help you may provide.

suanj and Tessa: You both make this look so easy! Are these names indexed and searchable, or did you scan through the batch of documents in a particular collection?

Thank you!!

For the births... the 1904 records were indexed at the end of the register.
The earlier birth act for Rosina Reccia was not indexed and I searced page by page.

I also searched in earlier years (1866-1867) for Antonio Tallone's birth (page by page) but did not find him, YET.

Checked the marriages in 1866-1867 for Francesco Tallone and Brigida Chiacchio, but was unsuccessful there as well (no indices available)

EDIT TO ADD*** :-)
Located the birth act of Antonio Tallone - #84 in 1866 in Grumo
Dated 30 May 1866 - birth on same day at home at Strada Napoli.
Father: Francesco Tallone, 25, [son of A. G. P. di Napoli (?)], farmer
Mother: Brigida Chiacchio, his wife
Child given the name Antonio.

Margin notation of marriage on 21 January 1892 to Rosina Reccia.

I believe the A.G.P. of R. Stabilimento di Napoli indicates that he was an abandoned child, and possibly a ward of the government.

...and to correct my translation, it looks like he resided with and was raised by married couple Tammaro Pezone and Concetta Cristiano in Grumo.

Maybe someone can clarify the reference.

Tessa,

I am confused. Regarding Francesco: Is it saying that he was abandoned / ward of the state, but raised by Tammaro Pezone and Concetta Cristiano? As in, adoptive parents, so to speak?

That is how I read it. The document states that he resided with Tammaro Pezone and Concetta Cristiano(a married couple), and it states that Francesco lived in the town of Grumo from childhood.

Cannot say for certain that he was legally adopted, but it sure sounds like it :-)

Tessa,

Regarding "Tammaro Pezone" - am I to assume those are his given names and that "Tallone" is he and his wife's last name? Or might Tallone be a surname attached to the abandoned baby, with "Pezone" being Tammaro's surname?

An abandoned child was given its first and last name (nome e cognome) by the official.

Tallone would be Francesco's given surname.

Tammaro Pezone and his wife, Concetta Cristiano, were the couple who raised him.
FYI - Italian women kept their maiden name.

I believe that Francesco was not adopted, but rather put in the care of this couple.

EDIT TO ADD***

Here is the birth of another son to Francesco Tallone and Brigida Chiacchio in 1868.
Father was Francesco Tallone, "son" of Ave Gratia Plena, raised by Tammarantonio Pezone...
Mother was Brigida Chiacchio, his wife.
Birth on 23 April 1868 at home, Strada Cappelle.
The child was given the name Gaetano.
