Struglia/Tancreti - Fontana di Liri ... Struglia - Atina

In the course of doing research for Dual Citizenship, I learned quite a bit about my Italian ancestry. I have not been able to find ANY reference to STRUGLIA in Fontana di Liri or Atina. Thanks to anyone who recognizes any of these names or has ideas on how I should proceed from here.

Below is the information I have:

-My great-grandfather was Angelo Struglia born in Fontana Liri (FR) on May 14, 1869
-My great-great grandfather was Domenico Struglia born in Fontana Liri on March 5, 1831
-My great-great grandmother mom was Giovanna Tancreti born in Fontana Liri on May 5, 1840
-Angelo's sister was Paola Pasqua Tullia born in Fontana Liri on April 16, 1876
-Angelo's brother was Rocco born in Fontana Liri on february 4, 1879


My grandmother - Maria Loreta Struglia's - immediate family:
Her father - Angelo
Her mother - Colomba Di Paolo born in Atina on January 24, 1872
Her siblings are as follows:
-Peppina born in Atina on November 19, 1894 (she married Salvatore D'Angelo)
-Alfredo born in Atina on January 14, 1896
-Assunta born in Atina on August 13, 1897
-Romeo born in Atina on April 8, 1899
-Maria Loreta fits in here among her siblings
-Pasqualino born in Atina on May 17, 1905
-Michele born in Atina on September 27, 1905

Rocco Struglia (Maria Loreta's uncle)
-He married Giovanna Di Fiore who was born in Atina on June 29, 1878
-Their children are:
Archimede born in Atina on May 9, 1904
Mariano born in Atina on May 10, 1906
Antonio born in Atina on June 13, 1909
Vincenzo Alberto born in Atina on May 4, 1911

-Domenico Striglia (Angelo's dad) he died on December 9, 1899
-Giovanna Tancreti (Angelo's mom) she died on January 23, 1921
-Colomba Di Paolo died on December 29, 1916

All these surnames can be found in today's phone book although not in Fontana Liri. However many people these days use only cell phones. The exception is Trancreti wich is probably a miss-spelling as Tancredi is found.
You should be able to find many records on microfilm with familysearch.org or by writing to the Comune. The Comune only has records from 1861. They also have some interesting anagrafical records.
The Comune of Atina also only has records after 1865, prior to that they are on microfilm (not on line yet).

Appeared Angelo Struglia, 22, organ-maker(?) residing in Atina, to declare that at 3 AM on the 19th of the current month, to Colomba di Paolo [daughter of deceased Giuseppe], his wife, seamstress, residing with him, was born a female child who was presented to the official and given the name PEPPINA.

Groom: Angelo Errico Struglia, 24, organmaker(?), born in Fontana Liri, residing in Atina, son of Domenico Struglia residing in Atina, and of Giovanna Tangredi residing in Atina.
Bride: Colomba Di Paolo, 21, weaver born in Atina, residing in Atina, daughter of deceased Giuseppe who resided in Atina, and of Elisabetta Tamburrini residing in Atina.
They presented a certificate of publication of banns of marriage to the official. Banns were posted on 10 and 17 of December in the town of Atina. Also appeared at this act Domenico Struglia, father of the groom, to give his consent.
The groom and the witnesses signed with the official. The others were illiterate.

Appeared Giuseppe Di Paolo [son of Francesco], age 31, arms-maker(?), residing in Atina, to present a female child who he declared was born n the 24th of the month of January at 11 AM to his wife Elisabetta Tamburrini [daughter of Francesco], and he child was given the name COLOMBA

Margin note: Married Angelo Struglia on 27 January 1894 in Atina.

Giovanna died at 6 AM at home. She was age 80, housewife who resided in Atina. She was born in Fontana Liri to deceased Domenico [Tancredi] a laborer who resided in Fontana Liri; and to deceased Giudita D'Ammusso, housewife who resided in Atina. Giovanna was the widow of Domenico Struglia.

Colomba died at 6 AM on the 25th of the month. She was 43 years of age, a housewife residing in Atina, born in Atina to deceased Giuseppe, a blacksmith, and to Elisabetta Tamburrini, a housewife, both resided in Atina in their lifetime.
Colomba was the wife of Angelo Struglia.

You must have a subscription to familysearch. I have never found a thing on familysearch or ancestry (even with the subscription bit) for anything in Italy. The way I got the information I do have is when the translator was asking the Comune to send my Grandmother's birth certificate to the Italian attorney. Translator is a nice guy and the person in the Comune office rattled off all the other info for him which he then passed along to me.

So ... big thing is TANGREDI, not Tancretti. And various other bits. WOW, WOW, WOW. Did I say that already? LOL

As far as the phone book goes, yes, filled with these names. Have been working off and on through Facebook because I know that is how many people have found cousins and such.

Thank you again for passing all this along and I cannot believe you just whipped this up from your cyberspace resources!

The correct surname is Tancredi

When looking for Italian records on familysearch, you need to search in the Italian records themselves. You cannot use the database search. Since we do these searches daily... we know where and how to search.

Thanks Tessa, I didn't realize Family Search had begun putting the Frosinone area on line. I see they still have lots to do however. I was told the Atina records were uploaded but I assumed it was just accessible to members. Nice to know it's not!
There are still lots of towns whose records at Family search are incomplete and in those cases it will still be necessary to write to the town offices. Except for Cassino! If its not at Family Search, the town doesn't have it and that goes for all towns whose records were reconstructed. (Note: if the date at the top is after WW2, the record is reconstructed!)

Yes, the records are incomplete for Frosinone.
It was just lucky that records for this poster's ancestors were online.
