There was another child born in Sambuca, Benedetto, born 7 May 1898, #122. He must have died before Calogera emigrated. I checked for the death act but some years are missing. It was common to name another child after the paternal grandfather if a previous one passed away.

Very interesting stuff, another couple more names to add to the family tree!

Calagera/Catherine was about 57 when George Dies. I wonder if she is buried anywhere near him. Or, if she possibly remarried.

Thanks Biff.

I searched through Saint John Cemetery online and there doesn't seem to be a Calagera or Catherine buried with him so I'm guessing she didn't pass away around that time. Still on the hunt for some sort of Death Record for her or for Albert. Both seem to be a mystery at the moment.

I just spoke with my Mom and she sent me the attached image of a burial notice for a "Clara Guzzo (nee Scuriti)" which she found with a bunch of old stuff. The date is off by exactly 1 year, so I was skeptical to believe that it was actually Calagera's Death.

I searched the cemetery and its actually located in Cleveland, Ohio, which makes it even more confusing.

The date matches the birth act from Sambuca I posted previously--5 Jan 1882. So Calogera aka Caterine aka Clara is likely to have remarried after Girolamo's death. This is getting confusing.

Just did some quick digging on this Clara Guzzo and the trees I was getting on Ancestry did not match Calagera, including birth dates of "Clara's" children and Naturalization of Clara's husband Frank, so I don't believe this Clara Guzzo is Calagera.

Back to the drawing board on finding the Deaths of Calagera and Albert!

Vinny,

Can you post the tree info you found on Ancestry for Clara and Frank? I'd like to take a look.
If Clara Guzzo nee Scur(i)ti born on the same day and year as Calogera Scurti isn't the right person, how did your Mom end up with that memorial card?

Just as a brief example

Frank Guzzo shows he had 6 children: Louis (1903), Albert(1908), Elizabeth(1910), Teresa(1914), Rose (1915), and Anna (1927).
On a 1925 and on a 1930 Federal Census it shows Frank and his wife Catherine/Catherina, plus all the kids. This doesn't line up with Calagera's timeline: In 1930 Calagera shows up as Head of Household her with husband Girolano Montalbano.
Plus if you start filling in the blanks with the kids, their parents come up as Frank Guzzo (Guzzi) and Caterino/Catherine Guzzo (Guzzi).

Located this entry in the Illinois Death Database:

ANGELO ALEX D M/W UNK 0028368 1918-09-21 LA SALLE LA SALLE 18-09-23

With the confusion on Alberto's names on the 1910 census, I thought it was worth noting. No image available on line.
