Having problems with the Italian language? Do you need help to translate or understand an old family document? There is always someone who can help you!
Hi! I have this document where the Diocese translated to Italian the originale baptismal record of my GGGGF, which was in Latin. My main doubt here is the name of the father of Giovanni Battista. In the marriage certificate says it's "Andrea Solari". But here, as you can see, it says Andrea but then also Antonio Maria:
So, which would be the names of Giovanni Battista's parents then? I can also upload the original baptismal record in Latin if you need it.
I believe it says: "Giovanni Battista Solari, son of Andrea (Solari), son of the deceased Antonio Maria (Solari)."
So Antonio Maria (Solari) was Giovanni Battista's paternal grandfather.
Giovanni Battista's mother was Paola Livellara, daughter of Giacomo (Livellara).
So Giacomo (Livellara), was Giovanni Battista's maternal grandfather.
(The Godparents were Giovanni Battista Solari, son of deceased Antonio Maria (Solari) of the parish of Santa Maria di Bacezza, and Chiara Livellara, daughter of Giacomo (Livellara), wife of Andrea Costa, of the Parish of San Quirico di Rivarola.)
Baptised 30 September 1827, by the Rector of San Michele di Ri.
You are very welcome for the help. It can be a little confusing at times.
The word "fu" is singular, and translates to "was". When we see "fu" before a name in the records it generally means that the person is diseased. The word "furono" is plural, and translates to "were". When we see "furono" before say the parents names on a death record, or on a marriage record it generally means that the parents are both deceased.
It looks like the godparents were possibly Giovanni Battista's paternal uncle and maternal aunt, so it gives you a little more info.
