1768, 4 September
Salvatore Mingoia son legitimate and natural of Antonio and Antonia Mingoia, and Anna Maria Pitisi, daughter legitimate and natural of Matteo and Grazia Pitisi.

The listing on the side mistakenly gives the bride's mother's name rather than the bride's name. Happens frequently.
Places: Jaci, Palazzolo Acreide, Pedara, Trecastagni
Names: Fisichella, Gangemi, Miano, Moscuzza, Smriglio, Torrisi, Valvo

Wow, thank you so much for translating! That's exactly what I was assuming happened but I just wanted to double check. Now I'm back to my 6th great grandparents in my tree. Thanks again!

Also, was it common for the mothers' maiden names to not be mentioned, or was Antonia's last name really Mingoia and Grazia's last name Pitisi?

You're welcome. The other information regards the dates of the reading of the banns, the name of the priest and the names of the witnesses.

You are lucky in that your ancestors came from a region of Italy whose church records are available online. Most regions are not, so people can only go back as far as the start of the civil records.

I am surprised that mother's maiden names where not given. That is the norm that I have experienced. Only when you go back to the early to middle 1600s were they not given. That is based upon my experience in the Catania region.

Ok. I'm wondering if they were actually cousins that married each other. Thanks a ton!

It is possible but an unlikely coincidence. Best thing to do is find their marriage records.

Here is one that could be his parents' marriage record:

Wow, thank you so much!!! You just saved me tons of time searching through the records. Any chance you can read the maiden names and parents names? It looks like maybe Antonia's maiden name was Peri?

Antonio Mingoia was the son of Francesco and the late Anna Mingoia. Antonia Peri was the daughter of Giacomo (Jacobi is written, they always latinize the names) and Anna Peri. No maiden names for the mothers apparently.

Actually, it might say ' alias Rinzino' after Anna Mingoia.

It's actually not that hard to search, once you train yourself to read the handwriting. Look for the indicies, usually, but not always, at the start of each volume. Before about 1820 or so the indices are by given name, note surname.
