Connection between Vincenzo and Luigi Bagnato, need marriage of Vincenzo B. and Rachaele Fedele

Post by Suedigi »

I have been going through records using the computers at a Family History Center (LDS).
I am trying to find documentation connecting two men whom we think may be brothers. (We, being, me, Sue Di Giacco age 63 and Kay Bagnato being 83). We are a DNA match. She knows she was cousin to my grandmother, Nancy (Bagnato) Di Giacco.
We think her Grandfather Luigi Bagnato of Sant’Eufemia, Reggio d’ Calabria who died in 1906 there, was a brother to my Grandmother’s FATHER Vincenzo Bagnato. I am going to put below some information that I have been using in the research.

My Grandmother was Annunziata Bagnato, born in Rosarno, 6 March 1903. Father Vincenzo Bagnato and Mother Rachael Fedele. (on her marriage record in Albion, Orleans Co. NY).
Kay’s Grandmother was Catarina Pavia Bagnato, a widow, she came over at age 49 (b.~1872) in June 1921 with her 16 year old son Giuseppe Bagnato (b. ~1905). Another son Luigi was already here (born 1902). Luigi was Kay’s FATHER.

I found my Grandmother’s birth in Rosarno, 6 Mar 1903.(on computer at FHC in Rosarno Records)
Her father was 52 giving him an estimated birth year of 1851 Vincenzo Bagnato
Her mother was Rachaele Fedele.

Gram had a brother Gabriel Bagnato born 23 Mar 1882 based on his USA WWI draft card
and a brother Giuseppe/Joseph Bagnato born about 1880 based on census information.
I thought I found Gabriel’s birth record a there is a birth 23 March 1882 of Gabriele Bagnato son of Vincenzo Bagnato who’s age matches estimated birth of 1851. But the mother is Rachaela Panuccio.

I found Kay’s FATHER’s birth record. He was born 1902. His father was 38 Luigi Bagnato and his mother was Catarina Pavia.
Found the marriage of Luigi and Catarina Pavia. They were married in 1903. As I understand it, people married in the church, had children, then the State/Gov. wanted them to be married under Civil Law, so that could be why married a year after he was born.
Luigi Bagnato was 40 on 1903 marriage, both his parents were deceased at the time of the marriage”
His parents were: Giuseppe Bagnato and Severia Gioire. On FHL Film 007685349 Image 2088 Record # 2068.
Luigi and Catarina Pavia were married in San Calogero, Vibro Valentia, Calabria.
Caterina Pavia was 32 in 1903. Her father may have been alive: Giuseppe Pavia, her mother was deceased: Rosa Surece (difficult to read).

Interesting to note on Luigi Bagnato born 1902 on his record there are signatures, his father’s and a Rocco Fedele.

I think it would help greatly to have Vincenzo Bagnato and Rachaele Fedele’s marriage license to find his parents and then find the parents and all their children.

It would appear the family was in Sant’Eufemia and then Vincenzo ended up in Rosarno.

Thank you anyone who can help, have thoughts, ideas for research.

Found baptism's of 3 Vincenzo Bagnato's in Sant'Eufemia. One in 1849, one in 1851 and one in 1852. The 1849 has a father of Luigi but a different mother.

Got confused by your post. I was looking for a Vincenzo, son of Luigi. The 1851 Vincenzo was the son of Giuseppe Bagnato and Severia Gioffre(?). It could be him.

Didn't think to look on Antenati. I default to FamilySearch as none of my regions are on Antenati yet.
Here is a link to the marriage there:

So it appears that Vincenzo's first wife, Maria Rachaela Panuccio (marriage in 1877) may have died, and he married in 1894 to Rachela Fedele...

Have you found a death act for Panuccio? Perhaps we can locate the allegati?

Great find!

#150 is the death in October 1898 of Rachele Panuccio, wife of Vincenzo Bagnato.

Vincenzo then married with Rachele Fedele the following April 1899 (I mis-typed the date of marriage as 1894 above)

This explains what the poster found as stated above:
I found my Grandmother’s birth in Rosarno, 6 Mar 1903.(on computer at FHC in Rosarno Records)
Her father was 52 giving him an estimated birth year of 1851 Vincenzo Bagnato

Thank you Brogie82 and Tessa78 so much. I am very excited about the information, the attachments are a fantastic bonus, it had taken me hours and a days just to find what I had written in my note at a FHC. I cannot wait to share it with Kay. She will be thrilled. She is very ill this will make her happy. Thank you thank you.
Bless you both, Sue

Oh my gosh in looking at Tessa78’s website antenati, in bottom left #150, I see a Gentilomo Bastoto, Now now sure if surname is the Gentilomo or if it is a given name but I am a DNA match with a Gentiluomo who has Gioffre in that line, also Fedele...now we are getting somewhere, for so long I sat on my Grandparents family history because I could not find Italian records. This is wonderful. Thank you Thank you

In the death act #150 (which was found by and posted by brogie62 :-) ) the declarants of the death of Rachele Panuccio were Damiano Bagnato, 29, carpenter; and Gentilomo Bartolo, 60, tailor; both residents of Sant'Eufemia.

Thank you Tessa, I don’t mean to be a bother, but would you happen to know who declarants were, usually. I find it interesting that their ages, so it is likely then that her parents were deceased, would that be correct?.
