Help scaling a brick wall...

Post by billbell3 »

Greetings,

I'm in search of ideas and/or advice on next steps.

My mother and her twin sister were born in Trieste in 1937. Their mother, Teresa Slizza, was 42 at the time. (Yikes). Their father, my grandfather, and grandmother were not married. His name was Augusto Caligaris. The twins were actually given the surname of Teresa's first husband, Ettore Ellero, rather than their actual father's surname. Divorce was illegal then so that might have had something to do with it. Both Ettore and Teresa died in 1948.

Augusto is the one I'm having trouble finding information on. Supposedly he owned a store in Trieste, possibly for shoes, but also owned another store, elsewhere, some say in Austria. He was back and forth between stores until the war started then seldom seen till shortly after the war.

Any suggestions on where to find info on ol' grandad would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Bill
Cheers!
Bill

Brogie, you are fantastic.
I didn't think that Italy had released birth certificates beyond 1908.

Yes, Brogie, you are fantastic!

These are the twins. In the side-bar, it does mention they were to be adopted by a much older half-sister in Berkely, CA. he married name was Lofaso.

Do you have a link to which records, from Trieste, are available online?

Thanks for your help and expertise!
Cheers!
