Need help locating Ship Manifest with GGF's Name: New York Arrival 7-May-1905

Post by scapurso »

I am in need of help locating my GGF's name on the Ship Manifest. His Italian given name was Antonio or Antonino Pirrelle (changed to Parella in the U.S.). According to his Alien registration file, he arrived into the U.S. via the New York port on 7-May-1905 on the ship named SS Red Italia. He would have been 28 years old in May, 1905 and was married. He was from Sicily and was born in the Tripi, Messina, Sicily area. Not sure where he lived in Sicily after he was born. His wife's name was Pasqualina or Pasqua Catania and she was also from the Tripi, Messina, Sicily area. Attached is a document that I located through the Library edition of ancestry.com. His name may be listed on this document (see Line 22). Any help that can be provided with locating his name or interpretation of the writing on this document is appreciated!

The passenger listed on line 22 was Antonino Amorello, 28, from Borgetto. He was going to his brother-in-law Angelo Marosa'(?) at 330 East 53rd or 63rd St., NY

What date of birth is shown on his Alien Registration Card? Can you post the image?
Can you give additional details so we can trace backwards?
Where did he live in US?
Name of Spouse and/or children?

FYI - the ship is probably the SS Re d'Italia (King of Italy) which was an Italian ocean liner that was put into service in 1906...

Thanks Tessa78 for your help and for clarifying! I have found out additional information about my GGF after obtaining documents from his Comune in Tripi, Messina, Sicily. His Italian birth name was Antonino Pirrello Simone. His actual date of birth was 21-August-1878 (even though his Alien Registration form states 21-April-1878). There was another Antonino Pirrello born in Tripi on 21-April-1878, but that was not my GGF. He was married to my great-grandmother (GGM) in Tripi and the right documents were able to be obtained based on the information contained in the marriage certificate. Attached is the relevant page from his Alien Registration form that contains information pertaining to his arrival in New York, the ship name (SS Red Italia), and his arrival date (7-May-1905).
As to your other questions, he lived most of his life in the U.S. in Worcester, MA. He also lived for a brief period of time after he first arrived in New London, CT and Willimantic, CT. The name of his wife was Pasqua Catania. They had a total of nine children. I have attached the ship manifest for Pasqua's arrival as well (her name along with her two daughters are on Lines 1, 2, and 3).
As I am at a loss, I truly appreciate the guidance and extra digging!
Best regards,

Thank you for the additional information...

It is interesting to note that the manifest page before that of Pasqua Catania and daughters, there is listed (also from Castroreale, Messina) a Vincenzo Pirello and his wife Carmela (last two lines.) They are also going to New London CT.

Great find, mmogno!

I do not find the other daughter, Rosa, among the births there in 1906...
(She was age 3 months on the May 1906 arrival manifest)
Nor do I find her in Comune of Castroreale.
