Italians in 2018
Italians in 2018
Is the internet prominent in home in Italy today? Does the average Italian have interest in their ancestry? Im am wondering specifically about Rocca Canavese and what the chances are of connecting with people there who might be doing their genealogy.

Re: Italians in 2018
It is pretty common these days in my experience. I spend a good bit of time in Sicily and even in small towns away from the coast they are active Facebook users. Also they communicate heavily with WhatsApp for texting, photo sharing, and even voice and video calls. These are construction workers, bank tellers, teachers, from age 18-70 living in towns of 3,000 people on up to large cities. My Sicilian relatives in Gibellina found me (not the other way around) on Google in 2001 if that gives you any idea. As for their interest in genealogy, I would say it's like in the U.S. Some are fascinated and some have no interest. In my experience it seems like there's usually someone in the family that has the knowledge of how everyone fits together.
Researching Gibellina, Sicily surnames Bivona, Bonafede, Zummo, Ponzio, Bevinetto, Beninati, Fontana, Cipolla, Bruno, Manfrè, Lanfranca, and Navarra
