Passports

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Passports

Post by ashevcarco »

My husband's grandfather left Naples for the US in 1906 at age 18. Would he have had to obtain a passport in Italy before he left? Also, was there a minimum age someone had to be to travel alone?

There is info about passports in the following thread. Yes, in 1906, your ancestor would have needed a passport to leave Italy.
