Laurito family

Post by LupinChapai »

Hello,

I am trying to find information about my grandfather's family line. My great grandfather's name was Louis Laurito (1928-1973) and was born in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania. His father was Nic/Nicola/Nicolas Laurito. The story we have heard is that Nic came over with his father Antonio Laurito from Italy when he was really young. We believe Nic was married to a Catharine Barral, but one record we have suggests he may have been married to a Pasqualina Laurito some time as well. We believe that Nick was born in Italy in 1888, probably from the Napel area. We would love to find more history and are struggling with where to really start. Thought I would try here.

Thanks!

I did some quick searches on Ancestry.com and found the following which I believe is your GGF.

I believe this is Nicola's parents' Campora marriage act:

15 Feb 1885
Groom: Antonio Laurito, 22, laborer, son of the deceased Pasquale and the living Rosaria Perriello
Bride: Rosa Feola, 20, daughter of the living Domenico and the living Sabatina Calabria

I believe this is Nicola's first wife's death certificate:

Maria Perriello Laurito, born about 1892 (same year as the one on Nicola's naturalization docs above). Informant was Nicola Laurito. Father Bartolmeo Perriello

From the 1920 census records, Nicola's children with his first wife Maria Rosa Perriello were Ann(a), Pat (Pasquale), Anthony. After his first wife died in 1922, he remarried Pasqualina/Catherine and had children with his second wife. 1930 census lists two possible other children Nicola and Maria may have had. James, born about 1920 and Charles/Angelo Charles born about 1922.

The 1923 passport application posted above shows Nicola returned to Italy after his first wife died. This is his return manifest that same year showing him returning with wife Pasqualina (no maiden name). Lines 20 and 21. Appears they married 9 Aug 1923 in Campora.

Hi, folks! I posted a pic in my GenPage (MyHeritage) of some (I beleive) relatives/friends raising glasses in a small property in "Turtle Creek". Antonio and Maria are among them. I believe my aunt (Teresina) took the pic.
