Hello everyone!
I am trying to locate information and records for my great-grandparents who were born/lived in or around Cassino, FR Italy before immigrating to the United States in 1909/10. Andrew Vettese was my great-grandfather and Saveria (Sadie) Miele was my great-grandmother. They were born in 1885 and 1883 respectively.
Has anyone run across these names in their own research or had any luck in locating records in Cassino? Thank you so much!

Re: Vettese & Miele Family Records
All civil records in Cassino were destroyed in WW2. Anyone who left before WW2 would not have reconstructed their records. You might be able to locate Andrew's military record from the Archivio di Stato di Frosinone. There are posts on my website about this.

Could he have been born in Vallerotonda and been living in Monaco beforeWW1?

Re: Vettese & Miele Family Records
According to arrival of Saveria Miele and her son Giuseppe Vettese in 1920, they were born in "S. Elia" (Sant'Elia Fiumerapido, Frosinone)

You can't get a military record (foglio matricolare) from the Comune. His birth record probably isn't there either since Sant'Elia lost its civil records in WW2 and only has reconstructed ones.

Re: Vettese & Miele Family Records
You'd have to view them at a Family History Center, but the birth records for Andrea Vettese and Saveria Miele should be in the Sant'Elia records:

1883 and 1885 are in film No. 1883003, DGS No. 7973000

Re: Vettese & Miele Family Records
If Andrea and his wife and son left Italy before WW2 they wouldn't have reconstructed their records and therefore you won't find them in the Comune OR in the Family Search digitized records since the second copies stored in the Tribunal of Cassino were also destroyed. The parish records survived (for the most part) and they must be viewed in person at the parish archives. The priest won't do research but he will do certificates for citizenship purposes.
Foglio matricolare can be obtained from the State Archives in Frosinone NOT from the town of Sant'Elia. There is a post on my blog on this subject.

Re: Vettese & Miele Family Records
Thank you all so much!
So Frosinone said that they located his military records and are in the process of sending those over. I am checking the roles at Sant'Elia to try and located his birth record but it looks like it is only Saveria that I've found. If Andrea's records were indeed destroyed during the war, would a military record be accepted by the Italian consulate?
I have written to the parish priest for records as well giving the exact dates and asking for a certificate. I have my fingers crossed that will work!! Any advice on dealing with the parish office?
