Father born in Egypt 1920 of Italian Parents. Help finding his BC or Grandparents Birth or Marriage

[dbaxter3]

Greetings,

Starting process to find parents and Grand Parents Birth Certificates. My father was born in Cairo in 1920 of Jewish Italian Parents. I was told that Jews had to keep papers from country of origin when immigrating to Arab countries.

I read another post about trying to find father's birth certificate in Egypt, and it sounded like I would have better luck searching out Grandparents born in Italy. I do not know the region of Italy they are from.

Father's name was Loris Balestra. Grandfather was Sam Balestra. Grandmother was Amilda Panzieri.

I have also been told that my father may have served in the Italian Army after WW2 when he moved back to Rome.

Any advice on where to start my search would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi, Sam Balestra, maybe in italian could be Salvatore Balestra.. you have a probable birthyear? and the probable area where he was born??? just the name is no much.. I found this record abt Loris

but just the birthdate… many italians in North Africa, sending the Birth certificate of children also in Italy, for the registration in the civil records of italian place of father, normally was so… in effects Loris on this record saying that he had italian citizenship, and most probably he went in USA with a italian passport..
thanks for a reply,
best,
