Is it Michele Masselli or Matteo Masselli?

Hello Everyone,
I have been researching my X4grandparents and trying to verify whether Teresa Masselli's fathers name is Michele or Matteo.
I have been able to locate Teresa's birth certificate of 17 December 1829 born in San Severo however the birth certificate states the parents are Michele Masselli and Lorenza Guidone but the index states the parents are Matteo and Lorenza.
Am I correct in assuming that given that it appears on the birth certificate that the correct name would be Michele? and not Matteo?

Chances are the birth record is correct and not the index. You could find the marriage or death record to be sure.

The name on all other birth records for their other children is Michele.

Mattea 1811
Rosa 1821
Leonardo 1823
Carolina 1827
Berardina 1831
Filomena 1835

WOW Thanks so much for this information. Where did you find the information relating to all the children's names and dates? Are you able to assist me with finding the marriage certificate of Michele and Lorenza? Any assistance would be appreciated.

That was just a quick search on familysearch.org - there are probably more in the records themselves. Right now, these can only be accessed in person at a LDS research center. If they had their first child in 1811 then there's only a slim chance you'll be able to find their marriage record as the civil registration in San Severo started in 1809 and coverage in these early years is spotty.
