I am trying to help a friend with her Italian family research and wondered if anyone can help - her father married a Flora Zanetti in Edmonton, London, England in 1931 her father was Giovanni Zanetti who called himself John Joseph Zanetti and according to the 1911 UK census was born in Italy in 1869 he was a top chef in a bloomsbury hotel where he married a chamber maid called Clara Lydia Bell in 1897 Islington, London and on the certificate states his father was Lawrence - ie Lorenzo a farmer from Italy. Giovanni also had a brother living in London born in 1873 in Italy he was a mosiac maker called Guiseppi Zanetti he married an Italian girl and as far as I can see didnt speak much English he married Eliza Delmestre or Delmestro and they had 3 kids.
Does anyone recognise these names or can help in any way - she thinks the Zanetti's may have come from Brescia, or from Lombardy but has not been able to find the surname in Brescia or any with father Lorenzo ?? Would really appreciate it if can find the region and brothers parents names !!
Thank you!

Re: Surname Zanetti
Thanks Marty but the Pombia man is not her man - her Giovanni and his brother Guiseppe Zanetti came straight to England from Italy - possibly born in Brescia or Lombardy region.
Re: Surname Zanetti
Giuseppe Zanetti married Elisa Delmestre (probably Del Mestre) in Italy?
Why does your friend think the Zanetti's are from Lombardy?

Re: Surname Zanetti
No idea where Giuseppe and Elisa married - possibly Italy as I have not found a marriage in England for them or a birth for her even though the 1911 Census states she was born in London. Just checked with her to see why she thinks they came from Lombardy and she said it was where she found the highest concentration of the name when she was searching - so essentially, they could be from anywhere.
She isn't even sure that Giovanni and Guiseppe are brothers - just that they lived in proximity to each other in St Pancras, London in 1911 and are buried in Camden. I have not managed to find either brother on the 1939 register yet not that it would help as it does not include birthplace and I have not found him on the 1901 Census yet either so he may not have arrived here until after that Census.
Giovanni Giuseppe Zanetti is the main one she is trying to research - he names his father as Lawrence Zanetti a farmer resident of Italy on his marriage in 1897.

Re: Surname Zanetti - UPDATE!!
UPDATE and a breakthrough - they were probably born in Bollengo, Turin, Piedmont, Italy!!
Found a probable sister Lucia Teresa Zanetti who married Pietro/Pierre Antonio Casada in Holborn 1898. I found the couple on the 1901 census with a daughter Violetta Helvetia Casada who is on the 1939 register as well No trace of hubby after that but in 1911 daughter is at a convent school and Teresa Zanetti is a widow residing in Bloomsbury, London - the 1911 Census states she is born in Bollengo, Italy and her marriage transcription on the AIFHS database states her father is Laurentium (Lorenzo).
I cannot seem to find any translated records on FS or even images for Bollengo on the Antenati site - am I missing something - does anyone know if there are any online?
