Name changed Cirigliano > DeAngelo Youngstown OH
I'm searching for records on the name change of Samuel Cirigliano to Samuel DeAngelo sometime between the 1930 and 1940 Census. Samuel owned a barber shop and lived on Delaware Ave with Lida (actually Letitzia) and children. These were my father in laws grandparents. When he passed away, we found his church record that he was baptized Samuel James Cirigliano. He only remembered that he was taken from his parents to live with the grandparents at an early age and his name was changed to DeAngelo. I can't find any info on the Barber Shop or where it may have been located.

Many barbers were unionized, if the union in that area is still active you may be able to get some info
from them.
from them.

The 1935-1936 Youngstown Directory lists all of Sam's children (Carmelo, Peter, Frank and Vincent) with the surname Cirigliano, living at 766 Delaware Ave. Peter's entry includes "with Strouss-H Co." Sam and Lida aren't listed with them. Instead, 16 pages further along in the same directory, there's an entry for Samuel and Lydia De Angelo. It says he was a barber at 674 Elm, and that their home was at 766 Delaware Ave. Listed with them at 766 Delaware is Peter DeAngelo, "dept mgr at Strouss-H Co." It looks like Peter used both surnames in 1935-1936.

Can't help with the name change. I did notice that the 1920 and 1940 census has the family as De Angelo or Di Angelo while the 1930 Census shows the same family as Cirgliano (Cirigliano).
First I heard of the Cirigliano name for them. Letizia was my great grandmother's sister. My great grandmother was Mary LaPata who lived in Bellevue, Ohio.
My father remembers Aunt Latitz from Youngstown and remembers that Sam was a barber and had his own shop but he doesn't remember where other than it being in Youngstown. He also remembers their kids as they would occasionally go visit them in Youngstown.
It blew me away that the 1930 census shows Mary - mother in law living with them. I think that would be Letizia's mother who would be my great great grandmother. Couldn't find a record of her death but my dad doesn't remember hearing anything about her. She was 66 years old in 1930 and isn't listed as living with them on the 1940 census so probably passed away in that decade. Let me know if you find her death records. Too bad they didn't list her last name on the Census.
The maiden name for Lida/Lyda/Letizia on several of the marriage records for Peter, Vincent, Frank or Carmella is Fortunato but on one of them it says Vitullo or Vitulla. First I heard of the Vitullo name too.
Good luck in your searching.
