I have a marriage bann posted in the city of Fano, 1810. The spouse is Giacomo Antognoni, son of Antonio Antognoni and Maddalena Adanti.
When the marriage happens later, his mother's name changes, now it is Antonio Antognoni and Giovanna, figlia del fu Domenico Bonetti.
In the parish he was born in, the original couple had children named Giacomo Antognoni around 1750:
Antonio Antognoni and Maddalena Adanti had a Giacomo in 1748 (who died) and another in 1749, who may or may not have lived.
There WAS a Giovanna fu Domenico Bonetti in this parish, however, she married GIULIO Antognoni. They had a few children as well.
It seems the parish priest might have found the wrong birth record, but the correct death records (or the other way around)?
Everything I can work out suggests that the two death records MUST be for Antonio Antognoni and Maddalena Adanti.
It is clear that some problem occurred in the writing of the father's name in the copy of Giacomo's birth record. It looks as though it has been written over, and it appears the name under may have been Giulio, or just an error, but they have melded it into Antonio.
Even worse, in the provided copy of the death record of his mother "Madalina Antognoni," it appears very clear someone has simply added the name Giovanna in front of it (short form.)
In the latter case, the handwriting and the ink do not match the writing of the parish priest. They perfectly match, however that of the writer who recorded and signed the marriage two weeks later.
There is a lot of corroborating evidence that the mother's death record concerns Madalena Adanti. I know for sure she died in between december 27th 1753 and April 14 1754. This death record happens to be dated 1 gennaio 1754. She appears to have died 4 days after childbirth.
Giacomo was illiterate, and, as his other documents show, was somewhat unsure of his age (as most people at this time were).
I don't know how this process worked, so I don't understand how in two records two weeks apart, his mother could be listed as a completely different person.
Has anyone else seen things like this? It seems obvious that someone has added and removed names to get the documentation to slip by, even though it clearly isn't accurate. Perhaps the writer was simply confused. I provided the documents below (from Antenati).
Could I just be going crazy, or has some alteration clearly gone on here?

Re: Civil officials "bending" the truth?
Fano didn't begin civil records until 1861 so you are looking at copies of parish records submitted to the civil authorities. Errors could be made at the original writing (a mother wasn't always present at the baptism) or at any of the copies made, first for the civil authorities and again at the time of the marriage.
