Searching for my Orsini line.

Post by blake »

Hi there, my grandfather, Lorenzo Orsini emigrated to the US in 1906. Passenger list states the ship name was The Florida and he was from Fondi. Born 9 Sep 1885 is the best I can find. He did change his name in the US to Lawrence. In the US he married Teresa Merolla and had 13 children. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can't find any information on his parents anywhere.

This marriage registration lists Lorenzo's parents as Luigi and Vittoria

Unfortunately, the records for Fondi for years 1865 through 1925 do not appear to be available online at Famikysearch.org.

The Antenatal site is down right now. I will check there later.

Did his parents immigrate?

WOW, I searched there and found nothing. Thank you so much. I do not believe his parents left Italy. I do have conflicting information on Ancestry.com about where Lorenzo was born. The other location is Fondi, Bergamo, Lombardia, Italy but there is not a Fondi in Bergamo. If that helps.

Check the manifest you have for the departure city...
If he was from Fondi near Rome, he would PROBABLY have sailed from Naples.
If he was from the northern region, he might have sailed from Genoa or even from France.

Can you post an image to link to the manifest?
Perhaps there are other clues?

Here is the manifest:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1368704

It says Italy, South, so it must be Fondi, province of Latina.
