searching for Cavaliere's in or from Pardesca,Calabria

Post by the shadow »

hello,
continuing a family history search for my fathers side of the family. His father Fillipo Cavaliere married my grandmother Anselma Pellicotti in Gessopalena in 1922. he immigrated to the USA (Philadelphia, PA) in 1913 and brought her and there 1st born over to America in the 1930's. we have been in contact with my grandmothers relatives that are still in and around Gessopalena so we have a good history on that side. what we don't have is any history on my grandfathers side (Cavaliere). searching through census records in the US I found a military draft card for Fillipo from 1917 and it states his place of birth was Pardesca reggio Calabria Italy? I also found census records that state that Fillipo's father was named Giuseppe Cavaliere. So I reached out to the people in Gessopalena about marriage records to see if I can confirm this? my next step is to look for info on Fillipo or Giuseppe Cavaliere from Pardesca? any and all help would be great!

Fillipo was born in 1893 and may have had a sister named Philomena and possibly a brother named Michele?

thanks,
Paul Cavaliere

According to your previous post (12 years ago) it was obvious that Filippo was born in Gessopalena, Chieti and not in Pardesca, a village in the municipality of Bianco, Reggio Calabria.
You stated this as well. Now why are you having second thoughts?
Also the last residence of his brother Michele was Gessopalena as stated on the ship manifest present in that post.

Nobody with the surname Cavaliere was born in Bianco between 1890 and 1900.

Did you manage to get his marriage record?
If your answer is positive could you share it with us?

Parents were Giuseppe and Giovina Larcinese.

This should be the birth of his father Giuseppe, 52yo, son of Andrea on 12-05-1852 in Gessopalena.
Giuseppe’s wife is Antonia Tiberini, 33yo.

If you need to look for other acts follow this link, you’ll find Gessopalena’s registers from 1809 to 1899.

thank you Farassino for the information. Yes 12 years ago I posted similar info request about Cavaliere's from gessopalena. I inquired to the town via the email given about marriage records to continue my search on my fathers side of the family, but never got a response. Life got in the way and I stopped my search till recently. I reviewed old posts and decided to look into the possible connection to the pardesca info? I thank you for the information I can use this to revive our family tree project!
thanks again,

Is there a way to search those birth records by name to see if fillipi had a brother or do I just have to manually go threw each entry per year searching. I tried looking for Michelle cavaliere under 1886 gessopalena but found no entry?

There is an index at the end of the registers.
That should make searching quicker.
But beware, sometime they may not be 100% accurate.

Parents are different from those of Filippo so surely he cannot be his brother if this is what you were wondering but he marries a Cavaliere Filomena.
So she could be the sister you were looking for. But you were unsure he had one.
This Michele’s parents are Sante and Vittoria De Gregorio.

You could see if you can find a Filomena, daughter of Giuseppe and Giovina Larcinese in the registers or any other Filomena Cavaliere born in Gessopalena in those years.

Hello,
an awesome update to my story. I was able to get in contact with someone that basically does family history for a living and is currently doing and in depth family history on his family and gessopalena. Turns out his family is related by marriage to my family so he is sharing what info he has on the Cavaliere's from Gesso with me. It is not complete yet and I don't want to steal his thunder because it's his hard work but he has traced my grandfathers (Fillipo) family back to 1520 in Gessopalena. So there is 500 years of Cavaliere history there! I also learned from him that Fillipo had 2 sister's (no brother). Like I said he does this stuff for a living and also has a log of DNA history from Cavaliere blood from both here in America and from gesso. pretty neat to find out this stuff and all the other families that are inter twined by marriage, a lot still prevalent in Gesso.
thanks for any and all help you guys provided it really helped!
