I have posted on this forum before regarding my maternal ancestors but now have a little more information. I have tried to search the registries for Trani but my lack of Italian has made searching very difficult.
My great-grandfather - Pasquale D'Ambrosio - was born in Greece in 1884 because his father, Sylvestro D'Ambrosio (Born February 13, 1853) was in the merchant marines. Pasquale's mother was Maria Rosa di Benetto (Born July 4, 1857). Both my GG grandparents were born in Trani according to the Canadian census records.
Pasquale married Felicetta Caressa (born April 10, 1886 in Trani). But they were married in Romania because Pasquale also became a merchant marine and she met up with him in the Romanian port. It's possible that this was an arranged marriage. Pasquale left for Canada in 1905 and Felicetta followed in 1906 with my 20 month old grandfather. Sylvestro and Maria Rosa joined them in Canada in 1906 and 1907 respectively.
Sylvestro and Maria had 6 children that I could find: Pasquale (b Greece), Michele (b Trani 1887), Giuseppe (b Trani 1889), Annunziatta (b Trani 1894), Chiarrina (b Romania 1898), Antonnietta (b Romania 1901). All of these people arrived in Montreal by 1908. They married and had many children.
Any info re: ancestors in the Trani/Bari regions would be most appreciated.
