Cecilia Carli, Galzignano

Post by Ceccbarr »

I am looking for information relating to Cecilia Carli. I believe she was born about 1860. She married Filippo Ceccagno on 25 Oct 1880 in Galzignano. Couple's family were from this area so I am assuming her family may also be from that area. Cecilia died in 1936. She & Filippo had 14 known children. I have not been able yet, to track her parents or siblings & I don't know who to contact to find out more. I am based in the UK so am limited to on line research only at present. Any advice would be appreciated
Thank you

25 October 1880?
That could be the church marriage.

As far as the Stato Civile is concerned, their marriage banns were in May 1881.

And they only got married on 15 March 1885.
On that date they also recognised their 2 children born before the civil wedding, both declared, at the time, of unknown parents.
Margherita born on 11 October 1881 and
Silvio Giovanni born on 30 December 1884.

Cecilia Carli was in born in Abano, so it’s there where you should look for her ancestors.

I am sorry but may I ask another question. Filippo & Cecilia were Married in church in Galzignano on 25 Oct 1880, they subsequently had 5 children: Ida in 1880, Margharita in 1881, Rita in 1882, Lucia in 1883 & Silvio in 1884. Filippo & Cecilia are then recorded as marrying in 1885, again in Galzignano. My question is why would they need to marry again? Also, only 2 of the children were recorded at the 2nd marriage, why would that be? Ida, Rita & Silvio went on to marry so all 3 were living at the time of the 1885 marriage, I don't know what happened to Margharita & Lucia as I have no further information on them. Was there a difference between church & civil marriages at that time?
Thank you

In the Kingdom of Italy, with which Veneto was united in 1866, the civil effects of religious marriages were not established until 1929. Before that, the two marriages were separate in the sense that one could be celebrated and the other not.

Birth certificate of Margherita Ceccagno #74 (born 8 October 1881).

Birth certificate of Lucia Ceccagno #96 (stillborn on 13 Dec 1883).

Birth certificate of Silvio Giovanni Ceccagno #97 (born on 27 Dec 1884).

I cannot find the birth certificates of Ida and Rita in Galzignano. Can you provide links?
They could be daughters of Filippo Ceccagno and a woman other than Cecilia Carli.
