Post by ChristinaS1212 »

Can someone please translate this birth record for Pia Basilissi (record #593)? She is my GGM who was born illegitimate. I am looking for the details provided in her birth certificate
Thank you!

Hello Christina,
Sorry for neglecting your post.
I can assure you that it was not intentional, but now I hope that you come back and read about this very interesting find.

Let’s start with the brief translation of the birth act.
Birth act for Pia Basilissi born on 9 October 1887 in Asciano from a woman who didn’t wish to be named.
The declarant is Rosa Pellegrini 60yo, laborer.
The newborn was not presented to the municipal official due to bad weather.
Pia was left in the custody of the declarant.
Witnesses were Natale Ruberti 36yo and Antonio Marchetti, 25yo.

The margin annotation says that Pia was officially recognised by Oreste (called Pilade) Tabarracci and Caterina Pellegrini during the celebration of their wedding in Bagni San Giuliano on 29 July 1894.
Here it is:

Oreste, 30yo, born in Asciano, mason.
His parents were Giovan Battista and Giuditta Grassini.
Caterina, 28yo, born in Asciano.
Her parents were David and Maria Rosa Ghelardi.
At the bottom of the act it is stated that the couple wish to legitimise Pia Basilissi.

Also to be noted that the birth declarant Rosa and the bride Caterina have the same surname. Pellegrini.

But perhaps you already knew all this.

Kind regards
