Help with translation of baptismal record for Anna Savona

Post by italian059 »

I am not sure if I am reading this correctly but I think I see the word deceased and am wondering if it was the child or if I am just reading this wrong. Any info would be appreciated. It is the 3rd record on the left side of the page. Thanks so much,
Mary

My understanding is that the deacon was performing the baptism under the condition that the midwife had already performed the rite at the home of the infant. The record doesn’t say anything about the death of the child, but the church did allow a midwife to administer baptism to a newborn if it was in imminent danger of dying. The fact that the deacon was also performing the baptism leads me to believe that the infant survived.

The infant, Anna Serafina Nicolina (Savona) was born this morning, Feb 14, 1754, at about 10. Parents were Francesco Savona and Pietra Mondello. Godparents were Antonino (title maestro) and Mariana Palazzo, a married couple.

Io sacerdote don Paolo De Luca, su licenza del Reverendissimo decano, ho battezzato sotto condizione ...
Sul resto concordo.

@mmogno

Grazie per la correzione. Si, Don Paolo era lo sacerdote,

Al meno, I got the hard part correct. 😀

@ Mary

One correction to my translation above. The priest, and not a deacon, administered the Sacrament of Baptism to Anna in the church. Everything else in my translation above is correct.
