Gallicano Death Record for Chiara Saisi

Post by mjclayton1 »

Hello, Forum-

Can someone please verify my translation and also fill in any blanks? And maybe comment on the last paragraph? And anything important in between?

https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 64/58lnKy8

What I (loosely) see:

Town of Gallicano, District of Garfagnana, Province of Massa, appeared Raffaello Saisi, of Luigi, age 27, father of the deceased, AND Benedetto Saisi, son of the deceased Gio Domenico, age 67, near the deceased, both two farmers, born and residents in Gallicano, who in the presence of Leandro Puccetti, of Gio Battista, merchant, AND Pietro Mazzanti, of deceased Gio Matteo, (Community curator?), both of senior age, living in Gallicano (di moranti?), witnesses...?

They declared that on the 15 day of the month of August, 1853, at 3:00 (AM?), Chiara Saisi, daughter of Rafaello, age 1, (landowner?), domiciled in Gallicano, and died in the house of residence in Gallicano, 10 Croce (Cross?) Street?... and so on...

Thanks in advance...

They declared that on the 15 day of the month of August, 1863, at 3:00 AM, Chiara Saisi, daughter of Rafaello, age 1, landowner, born in Gallicano, daughter of Maria Assalonne, of the Hospital of Lucca (i.e., Maria was a foundling), 29 years old, peasant, born and living in Gallicano, died in the house of residence in Gallicano, 10 Croce di Via this is different than "Via della Croce"... and so on...

Thanks in advance...

Thanks, Pippo. Really appreciate it. And I did think Maria was quite likely a foundling, but I forgot to post that. Nevertheless, is great for you to confirm that, too.

If I may ask for one point of clarification: Are you saying the difference between the two being "officially" and "actually" living is the difference between (only) "domiciliato/i" versus "domicilmato/i dimoranti"? And the latter of the two being equivalent to "actually"?

Yes, "domiciliati" should refer to their official residence, and "dimoranti" to a temporary or actual residence.
However the writing of XIX Century is always so pompous and redundant, that there might even not be an actual difference in the intentions of the writer.
