RE:DEATH RECORD IN REGGIO CALABRIA

trying to find the death record for paolo labate in reggio calabria. born in 1827 to antonino and grazia ieraca, married fortunata labate (same surname) in 1859. son orazio born in 1872. fortunata died in 1906 and according to the death record paolo survived her. being79 at the time he probably died within the next 20 years or less. i even went back checking all deaths in reggio calabria from 1872 -birth of son orazio-to 1906-death of fortunata. continued up to 1925 checking all indexes. nothing. my guess is that his death may not have been recorded if he died in the 1908 earthquake. any insights or information most welcome.

Or Paolo Labate may not have died in Reggio Calabria.

anything is possible but as generations of the family were born.married,and died here,specifically his wife,i 'm inclined to think he died here as well. possibly lost in the 1908 earthquake. he was nearly 80 when wife fortunata died so its doubtful at that age he left reggio. if younger he may have left reggio for america as many did but unlikely at his age.

From another source I’m understanding that these registers were compiled in 1911. The registers are not online but you might like to write to the State Archives where the Registers are held and ask them to search the “21” registers (I’m assuming there are indices etc, otherwise it might be a big ask).

You could also research about the 1908 earthquake. You never know what you might discover.

i followed the link but not very clear regarding these 23 volumes or how to research them. if indexed that would be a great help. if not it would be overwhelming for myself and highly unlikely the archives in reggio calabria would do it. possibly paolo labate an 81 year old man was one of the dead. i gave up writing to state archives and comunes in italy years ago. they rarely if ever respond and assume the www.antenati site will take care of all inquiries these days. much different today than it was 25 years ago when i started my research.

Sure. Well, at least you now know that there are Death Registers held at the State Archives pertaining to those who lost their lives as a result of the 1908 earthquake. I only provided the link so that you would see where I got the information from. Those registers arn't on line and I'm not even sure that they were ever filmed. You've got nothing to lose from writing to the State Archives asking them to search for Paolo's death. Best to you with this.
