Anybody familiar with this claim?
"FamilySearch's project to digitize the Italian church records was abruptly halted in the early 2000s due to disagreements between the Catholic Church and FamilySearch, so there is no longer any nationwide concerted effort to digitize the church records. Any new records put online would be by private individuals or associations digitizing the towns or areas of interest to them. This is not commonly done because it's a ton of work! It's much easier to just go and consult then it would be to spend hours and hours photographing, and it's also much easier to get permission to consult rather than to photograph the entire collection."

Re: FamilySearch
The reason for the problem is that Family Search is a Mormon website. Mormons believe that unless baptized into the Mormon church, deceased people will be barred from entering heaven. Mormons also believe that they can baptize deceased people into the Mormon Church and thus enable them to enter heaven. The only reason that the Mormons do genealogy research is to baptize everyone they find into the Mormon Church. Understandably, the Catholic Church is totally against that which is why they will not cooperate with Family Search. Our only realistic hope is that Family Search will add more civilian records to its website. Civilian records give a lot more detail generally speaking than Catholic parish records. Ron
