My gggmother is a foundling, born in Paternopoli in 1828. She is given to a wetnurse in San Mango Sul Calore, where she eventually marries in 1851 and raises a family.
IF there is an act of recognition by her parent(s)f in which comune would that be registered, birth town, residence town or both?
What does it imply, if anything, if there is no notation on either her birth or marriage acts for the recognition...meaning is that evidence that no recognition occurred?
She was presented by a Nicola Gentile, stating he found the infant outside his door. Her marriage act used her given name as is what is recorded on her first child's birth act...subsequent birth acts uses the name Gentile....so, I am trying to determine IF there was an act of recognition and where/when it might be. Haven't found her death act, as of yet. Not in atti diversi in either comune.
Thanks for your ideas,
Donna

Re: where records are kept question
Hello Donna
Do the following two links relate. The birth record is for twin sisters, each given different surnames, both left at the front of the door to 26 yo, day labourer, Nicola Gentile’s home, and each were assigned separate wet nurses. From what I can read of the Birth Record, I am understanding that neither baby had any visible “marks” or “signs” on their bodies, and I do not see any indication of anything special being left with the babies e.g. a special toy, special clothing, that could be used to later recognise either of them, which is often an indication that an abandoned baby might want to be recognized at a later stage. (They both appeared to be about 8 days old.)
1851 Marriage of Antonio Zorella and Consolata d’Amore (proietta): https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 05/wkrekr2
1828 Birth of Consolata Amore (and twin sister Angela Forzione?): https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 18/wRbbyba
My thinking is that Nicola Gentile probably was the father of the girls. In this time frame “if” there was an Atto di Riconoscimento it would be found amongst the Diversi. For later years ie 1866 onwards, such a record would be found in the supplementary register eg Part II

Re: where records are kept question
yes, Angela. These are my people - Antonio Zarrella & Consolata d'Amore are my GGgparents. And that is her birth act with twin sister named Angela Forgione, who was given to a different wetnurse and died aged 5 months.
I also had the sneaking suspicion that Gentile was the father BUT....
and of course, there are a few years in which there are no registration books to make the solving the mystery even more of a challenge....
Thank you for your efforts.
