Looking for help untangling a NYC genealogy mystery involving Maddalena Mangini, Carlo/Fortunato Bevilacqua, and Luigi Malva/Malvey.
Documented timeline:
• c. 1877, Italy: Maria Maddalena Mangini, daughter of Giuseppe Mangini and Vittoria Arata.
• Jan. 1881, Italy: Maddalena marries Carlo Bevilacqua, a foundling/son of unknown parents in Chiavari, Liguria.
• Mar. 1881: Carlo (19) and Maddalena (23) immigrate to NYC together.
• Apr. 8, 1882, NYC: Daughter Maria Bevilacqua is born at 10 MacDougal St. Parents: Carlo Bevilacqua + Maddalena Mangini.
• 1883, NYC: Catholic baptism for Rosina/Rosalia names her parents as Fortunato Bevilacqua + Maddalena Mangini.
• July 22, 1901, NYC: Rosina marries Michele/Michael Santre/Santoro as Rosie Malvy. She names her parents Luigi Malvy + Mary Mangini.
• 1902–1903: Catholic baptisms of Rosina’s children identify her as Rosina Malva. In 1903, Maddalena Malva is a godparent to Rosina’s son.
• 1914: Angelo Malvey, born c. 1890, dies. His mother is recorded as Mary Mangini and his father as a Malvey (given name unclear). Rose Santre is the informant.
• Feb. 1915: Rosina dies. Her husband identifies her parents as Fortunato Bevilacqua + Maddalena Malve — matching the father named on her 1883 baptism.
• May 1915: Maddalena Malvey, widow, dies. Her death certificate identifies Michel Santre as her son-in-law, confirming she is Rosina’s mother.
What I’m trying to find:
Who was Fortunato Bevilacqua? What happened to Carlo Bevilacqua after 1882? Who was Luigi Malva/Malvey, and how did Maddalena and Rosina come to use the Malva surname?
I’m especially looking for records for Carlo or Fortunato Bevilacqua after 1882, a Fortunato Bevilacqua/Maddalena Mangini marriage, a Luigi Malva/Maddalena Mangini marriage, Angelo Malva/Malvey’s birth/baptism, and what happened to Maria Bevilacqua after her 1882 birth.
The family was primarily in Greenwich Village, and several Catholic records are from St. Anthony of Padua. I’ve extensively searched NYC civil records under Bevilacqua and Malva/Malvey variants without resolving this.
