In addition to having copies of my grandfather's passport and boarding ticket from 1906, I also have a copy of his Libretto Di Lavoro issued in late 1905 which states his intention to perform unskilled foreign labor and has the results of a medical exam by a delegated medical official showing him in good health.
Here's my question. Were all emigrants at this time (1906) required by the US and/or Italy to have this type of document or was age a factor? I've assumed (not a good thing to do) that because of he was 16 when he emigrated that this document was necessary due to his status as a minor.
