Are you looking for relatives immigrating prior to 1924? If so, you might have some success searching through..

www.ellisisland.org or www.stevemorse.org.

Both are free but you must register a username and password so if family came through New York they would have come through there. If however they went through the Philadelphia Ports, then that would require a search through a site such as www.ancestry.com which is a subscription site. If you could provide some first names, maiden names, etc on these families then those of us who have subscriptions to sites such as this can help you. Otherwise you would have to subscribe (free 14 day trial period) or you can access it through a local library. Call ahead and confirm they have ancestry and reserve a computer if necessary.
