I have read an article about Italians immigrating to South Africa in the early 1800s . many also went to Argentina. Would there be shipping records anywhere that would give passengers names.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Italians in South Africa
Heya,
You can find the most comprehensive South African shipping lists here: http://www.sagenealogy.co.za/Ships%20&%20Passengers.htm
However, you'll find very few Italians on the lists as most travelled in steerage and therefore no names are available. If the lists above don't help, then your best option would be to sift through newspapers of the period in question as they sometimes published names of newly-arrived emigres.
There was no widespread emigration of Italians to southern Africa until later in the 1800s (post diamond and gold rush in the 1860s and 1880s), although Piedmont had established an embassy at the Cape by the 1850s.
I hope this helps.
