Picerno & Germano ... Russo, Gamba

[drivingalong]

Hi all,

Post #2 - the other side of my grandparents...

Looking for info on Francesco Picerno
b: 24 May 1871 in Italy, likely Verbicaro
d: 12 Jun 1950 in San Francisco
Rumor is his mother's maiden name was RUSSO

He married Maria Giuseppa Germano
b: ABT 1875 in Italy
rumor here is her mother's maiden name was Gamba

They had 4 children: Giuseppe, Pasquale, Rose, and "Lee" Carolyn.

Any clues/ideas for Francesco's and Maria's pedigree?

thanks,
Jim

Frank's age doesn't matches but I think it was mistaken because Mary's age is 56 and she married when she was 21... between her and her husband there were only 4 years of difference (Frank's age at marrige 21), so it's possible Frank was 60 at the time of the 1930 census....

WOW, thanks Pink67/Laura! I had not found some of the data in your first post on Germano. Thank you thank you! This will give me more to go on for sure. (The last post, Packindo is some other family.)

For the children of Francesco Picerno, I have all the accurate facts on them. He had 4 children. Giuseppe (Joseph) was my grandpa. Giuseppe's son Frank (b 1922), my uncle, married Virgina and lives nearby and had two daughters.

Kinda cool to find my great grandfather, my grandfather, and I all were born May 24.

Jim.

[pink67]

Hi Jim,

glad to see it's your family!
As I'm not very able with your language I think I understand that the 1920 census (Packindo) is not about the same Picerno family?
If so, I think it's the same family because the address was:
in 1920: 718 Naples Street
in 1930: 719 Naples Street

From 1920 Census:child:
Joseph Packindo 22
Pasquale Packindo 14
Rosie Packindo 8
Lina Packindo 7

Joseph and Pasquale both born in Italy....

...and also the two roomers living with them had Mary's same last name...
More than a coincidence

Laura

[drivingalong]

Naples St is the clue as well. Joseph (Giuseppe) and two of his systems had *3* houses in a row on Naples St (and had a big fight about it around 1940). However, the ages for Joseph and Johnny are incorrect for 1920.
The surname is so messed up! I'll ask my mom if she remembers their address on Naples St. One step at a time....

I'm going to the LDS center today to order microfilms for Verbicaro.

[SouthernItalianNana]

Hi Jim:

Just adding my Mazzaferro to your list. My great-grandmother was MARIA LOUISA MAZZAFERRO she married my great-grandfather, GIUSEPPE CONTE in Verbicaro. I have all the info on their children.

I'm trying to find other siblings of Maria Louisa. I know her father was BIAGIO MAZZAFERRO and her mother was ROSA D'ALESANDRO. They were married in Verbicaro.

I don't know if we have a link yet, until I turn up some siblings. We'll see, maybe we are cousins!!

Going to do more research at the FHC this afternoon.

[renatopapa]

hello, i am investigating on my genealogy, and i have found data on my grand-grandmother named Battista Mazzaferro, she is married with Saverio Papa, i have only few data, first child in 1889 born in Grisolia (town close Verbicaro) but i don't have found any born data (of Saverio and Battista) probably are moved in Grisolia from other close towns, the probably born date of Saverio is 1860 (and Battista probably 1860-1870), i have found people name emigrating from Verbicaro, but now none live in Verbicaro or other close tows with this surname. Few days ago i have see the born book of Verbicaro and have many baby born each year (250 each year in the 1860 years), now the village have only 2000-3000 people bau many more in '800. If i found more news i write you. (sorry for my english)

[drivingalong]

renatopapa,

You english is way better than my Italian! I have have ready MANY mircofilms of the Verbicaro records. I found marriages between Papa and an Addiego (two different marriages); a Lamoglie; and a Germano.

Rachella Papa married Alberico Germano, who is my great-grandmother's brother.

Jim

[drivingalong]

renatopapa,

I also found 1887 Verbicaro birth records that show Francesco Spingola was married to Maria Papa. I had a great grandmother Angelina Spingola.
