Ellis Island records Raffaele Santoliquido, duplicates?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

VJ, you are an angel! I hadn't been back here since the weekend (I've been working on a bathroom remodeling project) and was pleasantly surprised when I dropped in today to see a 2nd page of information!

This is all fantastic information and yes, it is all correctly related to my family. The 1910 census record is amusing in the way they shortened the surname.

I knew there were two marriage records for my grandparents but didn't have the details you provided which were most valuable (the names of all four of my great grandparents; that is priceless information as you can imagine). Massachusetts archive staff told me that there are two records due to them being married in Boston but living in Somerville so both towns generated records.

You found some valuable information about Fedele Lombardi's siblings that my family didn't know at all! I've got to go back and fully study what you've posted but wanted to stop and tell you now that I am extremely grateful for all of this expert assistance! Grazie di esistere!

Hello Geoff :D !
I'm so glad that we could find some more records for you.
(and that you got to take a break from your remodeling  )
You're right, there's a lot to sift thru.
Please let us know if there's anything else we can do to help.
Thank you!

VJ,
I've had some more time between sanding walls to come back to this and digest the documents. I continue to be amazed and appreciative of the wealth and depth of accurate information you have found for me. My dad, Guido Santoliquido, and the rest of the family are quite gratified as well.

I shared this great thread with my dad's cousin Ugo . His mother was Concetta Santoliquido Masi, sister of my grandfather Arcangelo Raphael Santoliquido. You were successful in locating Concetta's sister, Gelsomina in the ship manifest SS Romanic, July 1907, Naples to Boston. Do you think you could find Concetta's manifest for us? I guess she didn't sail with her sister on the Romanic unless she is on a different page.

Concetta shows up on the 1920 census sheet you found for the Santoliquido's, which makes sense since the Masi family lived in the same multi-family house. Concetta was 27 and married to Rocco Masi at that time. It is fabulous to see that census sheet along with all the others. It might be of interest to my cousin Ugo and the rest of us to see her marriage record, too, if I still haven't worn you out! It appears their oldest child Ralph in the 1920 census was just 3 1/2 at the time so maybe they were married around 1915 or so.

Again, I thank you for all of your time and willingness to assist me and my family!

Hello!
I hope we made your dad smile :D

Of course we'd be happy to see what we can find.
We should have some members logging in now that dinner's about over (on the east coast)
I'll look for the marriage record in NEHGS.

No marriage records yet on NEHGS, they should be available from the town or county clerk

from NEHGS
Massachusetts Vital Records, 1911-1915
Massachusetts Vital Records for the period 1911-1915 were transferred to the Massachusetts State Archives in 2005, making them generally available to the public. In 2007, NEHGS began a project to digitize these records. This database will eventually contain the index and records for births, marriages and deaths recorded during that period.

As of November 19, 2008, the database contains an index to the births recorded in 1911 through 1915.

Yes, indeed, all of these records are correctly related to Concetta. I noticed how her husband, Rocco, has the middle name of "Jeffre" which is very interesting to me. The letter J seems quite unusual in the Italian language, although I went to the web site on first names that you thoughtfully shared and did see two names, neither of which was this name, that begin with J. So it is unusual. But on further review, and seeing the manifest for his voyage, it looks like he americanized his middle name from Giuffrida.

It is fantastic to see her ship manifest. It ties together her parents, who were left behind in Italy, with her brother, my grandfather, whom she came to join in Boston. And yes, it is possible that she was traveling with the two on the lines following hers. The last name Coscia is the same as my great grandmother's maiden name and a fellow named Mike Coscia took over the family barber shop.

You've given me so much to enjoy and process, VJ. I'll continue to study all of this as I attempt to document our family's ancestry in a useful way. There's so much there that you gave us that it will be weeks before I fully assemble and appreciate it all. And you've provided incredibly important leads taking my family back to Forenza and Montemiletto that I didn't know where to find on my own. And yes, that google satellite view of my grandfather's family's street in Forenza was a great thing, too! I know I've already thanked you, probably twenty times, but I really am grateful for this!

PS: Biff, that is the most beautifully transcribed manifest of any of them! Thanks for hunting that up for us.
