I am helping my friend to find relatives in Italy. They were born in Sicily, and came to the US in the early 1900's. I have done research on Ancestry.com, but cannot find hometown information for the pair.
His name is Vito Ferrara, birthdate 13June1879 in Sicily.
Her name is Vincenzia Pisciotta Ferrara, born 21April1882 in Sicily.
She came over on the Sicilia on 10Feb1905. I found the passenger manifest but cannot tell from the handwriting what town she's from.
He came over about a year before.
Any help is appreciated!

Re: Ferrara/Pisciotta information
Hi Marinne and welcome to the forum.
Can you post the 1905 manifest for Vincenza? Maybe some of the forum members can take a look and let you know what the name of the town is.
Edit to add manifest and comment

Camporeale, province: Palermo - region: Sicily
Thanks

I am having trouble attaching the manifest. The attachment size is too large. However, now that you point it out, it does look like Camporeale! I'll keep trying. Thanks for your kind help.

It's ok MK. Since I linked it already you won't need to.
Are you trying to find living relatives in Italy?

Re: Ferrara/Pisciotta information
Yes, as a matter of fact!! My 91 year- young friend's life wish is to go to Italy and visit her parents' towns. Her niece is planning to take her to Italy in May or so. She has no passport, so I'm working on getting certified documentation for a passport. She remembers little said of her parents' lives in Italy, but wants to visit relatives. I'm trying to help, but to no avail. I don't know what to do!

Hi Marianne
Do you need to obtain documents from Italy for her passport?
One thing you can do before your friends trip is have your friend write to people in Camporeale with the surname Pisciotta. She needs to explain who she is and who her parents were her parents years of birth etc. and ask them if they might be related and also tell them that a trip is planned to visit her mothers town and possible relatives. Post that letter on the translation forum (here on the site) so someone can translate to italian and then mail the letters out.
I've provided you with the link listing all Pisciotta's in Camporeale with their addresses. There are 12 total.
http://www.paginebianche.it/execute.cgi ... &om=0&be=0
When she gets responses they will more than likely be in italian so just scan them and upload to the translation forum so someone can translate the responses for you.
Hope this helps and let us know if your friend needs to obtain documents from Italy for her passport.
