Welcome to IG!
In which US state did the family live? By providing first names, and year of birth, we may be able to find records that point to the right spelling for the location of birth.

You need to put the name in Italian. Try with Napoli, which is the Italian name for Naples.rvance wrote:thanks for the linkwldspirit wrote:Need to get the grandkids off to school, but here is a link which enables

You can also use the following site, which is also very good, but doesn't have a search feature:

Vance,
surnames as Leapello or Leppello do not exist. In the province of Naples you can find LIPPELLI which I think is the correct spelling.

This may help, a 1915 manifest for Felicia (Romano) LaPella visiting her sister in Youngstown
Page 2 gives her birthplace as Marienella Caserta (probably Mariglianella)
1915 manifest
page 2
edit: correction
corrected birthplace per Ada's suggestion
edit: added
Note: there were people with the surname Coppola/Cappola in Youngstown from Mariglianella

Then
Marrisvilla Courta should be MARIGLIANELLA province of Caserta. This commune is now under Napoli and there are about 40 people with surname Romano.

I will try using Lippelli spelling
How do I search the surname in Naples? Is there a website in English?
Re: Searching for Gr. Grandmother's birth place S. Ital
Here are the results for LIPPELLI in Campania:
People/ Town/ Province
3.45/ Sant`Anastasia /Napoli
3.07 /Napoli /Napoli
If you are interested in searching for current persons:
Campania
Given the rarity of the name in that area, I would send out a potential relative letter in hopes of making a connection to family, and maybe you can discover more about your ancestors.

Hi,
I think can be important to know that there is a family in Calabria (Soveria Simeri, Catanzaro) Lippelli. I'm Lippelli too. We never know our family's story, because my father's grandfather was a orphan. Somebody gived to him this surname but we don't know why! If you have some more information, please, contact me. i think that the trasformation of the name from "LaPella" to "Lippelli" could be happened.
See you soon
