Lucca Family in Spresiano, Treviso, Italy

Post by Cj15 »

I have hopes someone in this forum would be able to help me.
We are trying to figure out where in Italy our family originated. The farthest we got is Spresiano, Treviso, Italy. The farthest certificate we found is the baptismal for Pietro Lucca (misspelled as Pietro Luca), born and baptized at the Spresiano S.S. Trinita parrochia on 8 May 1854. His parents, married at the same parrochia on 8 February 1846, Andrea di Giovanni Lucca (also misspelled as Luca) and Maria di Pietro Calesso.
There is a tomb there with all the other family members, but no dates. I believe the oldest one was called Luigi Lucca.
We are stuck at this part. Anyone has any advice on how to get farther on this search?
Thank you

Hi there!

Andrea (di Giovanni) Lucca - means that Andrea's father was called Giovanni and that he was still alive in 1846, otherwise it would say 'fu Giovanni'. The same goes for Maria (di Pietro) Calesso. Her father was Pietro and he was still alive when they married. There would also have been additional paperwork called 'allegati', literally 'attachments', which would have included a copy of the bride and groom's birth certificate possibly a copy of the birth certificates or death certificates of other family members. The marriage certificate itself should tell you what is included in the 'allegati'. If these documents are not available online you should be able to contact the comune of Spresiano direct for copies of these documents. Hope this is helpful. Good luck with your search.

That was very helpful. Thank you! Can you help me understand something else? We found two tombs in Spresiano. One says Lucca Emilia ved. Corazzin. Is it correct to assume she was born Lucca and Corazzin is her late husband's last name?
How about Barabas Maria in De Lucca? What does "in" mean? And why would they write De in front of Lucca since all the other relatives only have Lucca?
I really appreciate your help.
