Applying at San Francisco Consulate guidance

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Applying at San Francisco Consulate guidance

Post by khoney »

My husband will be applying for citizen by descent at the San Francisco Consulate. I will be applying there for citizenship by marriage which took place before 1983.

On the Consulate’s website (https://conssanfrancisco.esteri.it/cons ... riage.html) gives details on applying for citizenship by marriage however it then states:
The above rules and processing time do not apply to the automatic acquisition of Italian citizenship through a marriage that occurred before the date of April 27, 1983 (only for foreign women married before that date). Therefore, for marriages that occurred prior to April 27, 1983, applicants must still schedule an appointment through the system “Prenota OnLine”.

There is nothing I could find however providing details of what the procedure or documentation is required by me other than scheduling the appointment.

Has anyone had experience with obtaining citizenship recognition at the San Francisco Consulate of a pre1983 marriage?

Thank you

Hi @khoney,

you will simply have to present your birth certificate (in long form, with apostille and translation).

ItalianTranslator,

Thank you for explaining what is required. After going through all of the documentation for my husband to be recognized I am thrilled that this step is so easy.
