New York's "Little Italy" in l'illustrazione Italiana

Post by joetucciarone »

A 1933 article by Raffaele Calzini, "La Piccola Italia," whimsically describes New York City's Little Italy. This link opens the cover page of the magazine, l'illustrazione Italiana:

You have to click forward 8 times to reach the article itself, which opens with a nice photograph of the Brooklyn Bridge silhouetted against the New York skyline. It mentions Mulberry and Baxter streets, and among many other things, Calzini says: "Little Italy is the neighborhood of New York that Italians have occupied almost since ancient times: it is the nucleus of an invasion that spread to the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. It remains the headquarters, the center of our emigration."
